Baby girl Maxi dress

Another day another dress for miss Vi!
I knew little girls liked dresses, but I was sure once I had one mine wouldn't because of her brothers but luckily that has not been the case! I love making her dresses and she loves wearing them. I have quite a few dress patterns now and I love some of the free ones I've found too so we are haappily making our way through them, especailly since she refuses to wear pants anymore because "I no like them, mommy!"
Little miss wanted a longer princess dress so I made a geranium top and added a knit bottom in a much longer length. It turned so cute and just what little miss wanted <3
To make the longer bottom I simply added several extra inches at the bottom of the dress and it flowed beautifully!

Petite Pegs and Peplum

I LOVE sewing for my baby girl and I LOVE this pattern so much!

I made some more Petite pegs for Violet and I Love them so much! This outfit fits Violet perfect! She has received so many compliments wearing it and I love saying "Thanks I made it!".

I used the Petite Pegs pattern for the leggings and the fabric is scraps I think I got from fabric fairy a long time ago.
The shirt is the Flash back Skinny Tee which I love as well! I cut off 3" inches and added 4" in double the width for a peplum look. The fabric is an Old Navy tee.
Here are some feather knit prints on Amazon that are super adorable that would be so cute as leggings!

Mommy and Me outfits!

Hello friends!
I have been sewing a bit more of late and wanted to show off my sweet baby girl and our matching shirts I made!

(This post contains affiliate links. Affiliate links do not cost you anymore they just help support my blog. All opinions are my own.)
Ever since we found out we were going to have a girl I wanted to make matching outfits for us! I am not big on super matchy-matchy stuff but honestly doesn’t every mom and daughter need at least one outfit that goes together? Well I finally ordered some fabric and made sure to get enough for both of us!
I feel like sewing has really taken a back burner for the last year and really that is the way it should be after all, I’m a mom of 5, homeschooling again, and sewing is not my number one priority all the time (sad I know but life, ya know ;)

Anyways back to the outfits, I recently discovered Patterns for Pirates from a friend and so I bought a few of their patterns so far I love them! They are easy and the best part is No Cut pages seriously, it saves me sooo much time when getting the patterns ready!

The patterns I used for Violet are free patterns of theirs the Wee Lap Tee and Petite Pegs. I made them following the measurements but found I needed to size down on the leggings I used the 12 month size at the start but they were too big so I sized down and they fit Voilet perfect now!

My shirt is the slim fit raglan and again I had to size down from the size I measured for, I asked about that on their Facebook page and no one else seemed to size down so I think it may just be my body or measurements combined with how I like my shirts to fit. I LOVE, LOVE this pattern and how easy it was to sew up! Plus the directions were amazingly great, a must for pdf patterns.

I love our matching shirts so much and I LOVE having this sweet girl in our family <3

Geranium Blessing dress

It all started when I saw a blog post by Ashley about how she made a blessing dress for her baby girl. It never occurred to me that someone could actually make their own blessing or christening dress or that they would even want to! I devoured that post, I read every single detail in her tutorial like I was starving and it was my first meal in years.

Well a few years and another boy later I let that dream slip by, I figured I never would make one at this point so why dream about it? Then we had an ultrasound and found out that we were expecting a girl, a real girl and suddenly my dreams of making girly things came to life! It took only a couple months to realize 2 things, I was having my 5th baby and had less time than ever to sew, secondly in my dreams I could sew like a mad woman but in reality I am a slow sewer and have limited projects I can finish.

With little time I had I decided to use a dress my sister had given me with my 1st baby (I wanted a girl from the start) but never was able to use. A week before the blessing date I looked at the blog post that I devoured years earlier and decided I needed to make a dress for my little girl. It would be something I would regret the rest of my life if I did not.

I realized that my most favorite dress pattern ever was the perfect fit for what I wanted; I had made it so many times it would be quick and I loved the design. I thought about it for days and then found all my fabric surprisingly around the house. A new but too small men’s dress shirt and a barely used sheer curtain became Violets dress. Everything was perfect. I made the smallest size in the bodice. For the skirt portion, I sized up one size and added extra fullness, and then I added the sheer layers on top before sewing together. I embroidered a little floral pattern along the neckline and the dress I had seen so many times in my mind became real.

This dress was the embodiment of years of yearning and dreams that I never thought would be realized. It is funny how something so materialistic can hold so much emotion, isn’t it?

A simple dress for baby girls

Hello friends! Its been a long while!
In case you were wondering having a baby girl is everything I ever dreamed of! I sometimes look at her and wonder if its real and if I really have this perfect little baby girl <3 I love it and so do my boys!
My sewing has been very little the last few months and at the rate babies grow I haven't kept up with pictures as much as I'd like.

One of the dresses that I made that was worn over and over during the summer was this adorable number. It was such an easy sew and so cute we received many compliments over it every single wear. People were usually so impressed that it was handmade, if only they knew how easy it was! My sewing with 5 kids and homeschooling (did I mention we are doing that again this year?) all my projects of late need to be fast and easy so this dress has been repeated 2-3 times and worn a lot.

This little guy is taking having a sister quite well, as you can see, they absolutely love each other!
I made this dress using a free pattern from Sew Much Ado and a matching diaper cover from Made Everydays free pattern. I really like those two patterns a lot and they were very easy to make!
I can see more sewing for girls in the future of this blog! I do sew for my boys too, although, with a 12 year old in the same size as a mens small I don't do as much for the older boys anymore.
Fabric: Joannes from a couple years ago

Floral Geranium

Right before Violet was born I made the cutest little geranium! I decided to go a different color route than I would have normally chosen and I love the combination!

This is 3-6 month size and it looks like it will be fitting Violet in the fall so the colors are perfect!
I can just imagine this with a cute pair of cowgirl boots <3 I need to get some for my little girl! Do they come in baby sizes? I guess I'll find out!

With this dress I finally mastered my button-holer!
I haven't used it much because button holes frighten me but this dress was the first I've ever made that I felt confident, they turned out great and were pretty quick compared to my other tries.

I haven't hemmed the dress in these photos, oops, blame it on pregnancy procrastination, lol!
The fabric was from my stash that might be from Joanns. It doesn't really wash the best and gets wrinkly so I'm not sure how it will hold up over time.

Hazelbee Baby Dress

When we found out we were having a girl I immediately wanted a woven dress pattern (the geranium) and a knit dress pattern that I could use as a staple for our baby girl. I asked my facebook group what knit dress pattern would be good and a lot of people recommended the Hazelbee Baby Dress so I purchased it and have been very pleased!

I made the crossover option since I wanted one for our girl to wear as soon as possible and the crossover is the only option in the bundle that goes down to 0-3 months.

Here is our sweet girl wearing it! The fabric I used has very little stretch and fits her perfectly, well its a little big but that is perfect for a newborn :0) In this picture Violet is 6lbs 7oz so you can see it fits a small baby.

I really love how it fits and it was sooo easy to put on! I love that its a dress but the comfort of a newborn gown!

The sewing was flawlessly easy and I finished it in under an hour, I think in about 30 minutes, which as I've mentioned before I am not a fast sewer. I go at my own pace which can take a bit more time ;0) this pattern was easy and had a layer option for printing that I've not had the privilege of using before, it was awesome! Seriously love this pattern! I need to make a few more for her, yes I need to even though her drawers are plumb full, haha! Girls I love finally having one!!!

Ring around the onesie

We are really gearing up for the babies arrival! 6 more weeks :0) I'm excited but incredibly nervous too, I think each baby we have I get more nervous and quite honestly scared! This time I have new thoughts, on top of old fears, about how we are going to be having a girl and I'm not sure what if any changes that means for our family! But we are excited and at this point I really hope the ultrasound isn't wrong, lol!

A new free pattern I have discovered this pregnancy is the Ringer onesie from Shiwnn designs. Its a really easy sew and quite satisfying!

I learned a few things that helps make this not frustrating, the first thing is to make the neck and leg bindings 2-3 inches longer than needed, sometimes depending on the fabric there just isn't enough to go all the way around and its better to be safe than have to unpick it.

The Second thing is to stretch like the pattern says but if you stretch the neck binding too much it won't recover as much. Thus this cute pleated neckline on this onesie ;0)

After comparing these finished onesies to some store bought ones I have, I think the 0-3 month size is closer to a 3-6 month at the store, but I won't know for sure for a little while. Also its a more relaxed fit compared to store bought as well, which is completely fine if you're okay with that for what you have planned and I was!

This one is my favorite! I used interlock for the bodice and knit fabric that had spandex in it for the neck and leg bindings it worked better than any of the others, and the fit looks like it will be better too.

I used my handy Kam snaps for the bottom and it really pulled everything together to have them so nicely, and easily, done!

All in all I think this is a great pattern! I really think boys could probably use it as well so its gender friendly too ;0)

Owl baby girl gown

Sewing for this baby girl has been so fun! It isn't quite what I imagined (when is it ever?) but I am so happy to finally be sewing for a  little girl! I still will sew for my boys but right now they are good with their clothes and as you can imagine after 4 boys I don't have any girl clothes ;0)

On my last post I mentioned baby gowns and this is the one I have made time and time again! I love it. It was the first knit fabric sewing pattern I ever used and it turned out great! I learned a lot from the pattern instructions and have never been scared of sewing knit fabric since.

The pattern I use is Kwik sew 3090. There are many free patterns that seem to be about the same   (here for example) but I really the size range of this pattern and will use it probably forever! The fit of the neck is probably the best part, I hate it when gowns show the shoulder or slide off but this has never happened with this pattern. Also the fit everywhere is spot on so I never have to guess if its really going to fit that age.

I didn't use the sleeve option it comes with I just did a basic cuff.
I love gowns on newborns and even my older babies it makes it so easy to change at night and they are so much cuddlier with their tiny little feet and legs curled together <3
I'm not sure where I got the fabric but here is some that has owls and is so cute!

I'm getting excited to have our baby here only 7 weeks left!!!

First dress for our girl

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! Ours was great we went to my in laws where it is 10-15 degrees warmer and so it was nice to get outside a bit more without freezing!

This is the first dress I have made for our daughter (so weird to say that!) I used the geranium dress pattern from Made by Rae and the fabric was from a long time a go, I think I bought it at Walmart.

I have made this dress before for my niece and it was coincidentally in the same fabric! I didn't have the pattern at that time though so I used the free version. I now own the pattern since I promised myself I would buy it if I ever had a girl and I did very shortly after finding out we are expecting one!
We are excited and I will be posting a few other things I will make as I make them.
I will still have boy posts but I will also, finally, have a few girl ones too!
